Kris,

Unfortunately, I think "chicken tractor" is a bit of a misnomer. When you hear the phrase chicken tractor, you imagine something that has a seat and wheels and a steering wheel. Alas, it's really just a mobile pen that allows chickens access to fresh pasture without getting snatched up a by a chicken hawk. Despite its decided un-cute-ness, the chicken tractor is really neat! Landon and I started piecing one together over the weekend, so we'll have videos and pictures soon.

I am imagining what a chicken tractor might look like. I am hoping it is every bit as cute in real life as it is in my imagination. I hope google images doesn't burst my bubble!

I don't think the cucumber beetles do much damage to the sunflowers, maybe munch on the petals a bit. Mostly, they like hanging out there. Cucumber beetles can do some damage to the plants and fruits of the cucurbits, but the real heartbreak is when they spread bacterial wilt. So, the hope (I think) is to keep the beetles out of the cucumber flowers by wooing them with the sunflowers.

I always thought that sunflowers had nothing that liked to munch on it and were a naturally pesticide-free flower?

what memories! I am also transported back to that summer recently by the job search factor. But, I think I can say that we are where we are now cause we've grabbed on to something means something to us, instead of being dropped somewhere after an impersonal milestone like graduation.

But as for the early philly days, thanks for being there! I don't think this place would mean nearly as much to me if you hadn't been here from the start, and maybe thats a lesson about how much a specific place matters in comparison to connections. Here's to building new things on the foundations of the old!

Oh man, just stumbled across this post, and your boots are already so much more worn than when you took this picture. I definitely am with you on the urge to time lapse.

time lapse:

yesterday i was spending time at abyssinia with a friend who mentioned the soy not oi zine, and i remembered my first ever anti-war meeting at vassar, cooking banana bread for tabling. maybe you and landon were both there? i ran across your blog a few weeks ago, and love that you are writing it. i'm back in philly, living in mt. airy, thinking a lot about land use and urban farming and food justice (farm-longing). would love to come visit your farm some time. xo. beau (previously faye)

Lindsey,
Just discovered your blog, as Elizabeth and Max told me about it. Love it, your pix, all great. Congrats on becoming an aunt, btw. Can't wait to see the pix of Oliver and co. Your mother said she'd email them to me but I know that really means that your father will as I have finally found someone less computer literate than myself. Anyway- best to Landon and e-i-ei-o!
Love,
Sally

Dear L&L,
Really enjoyed the Inquirer article on you two and your work at Root Mass Farm. Keep up the good work. Also, your fig tree here grows large and is full of fruit.
